Book Review : The Winner's Curse

Book Review : The Winner's Curse

The Winner's Curse is a political thriller about National ID Numbers, power and greed which is written by Dee Walker who is an alumnus of IIT Delhi and published by Srishti Publishers and Distributors. I have received this author signed copy from Reader's Cosmos.

Cover : Cover lacks intriguing quality. Though the picture of a metro city and some hint of computer language points out at the involvement of technology and engineering which is clarified by the tag line ' A political thriller about national ID numbers, power and greed'. The voyage of secrets, betrayal, trust and crime you are going to experience in the book is not revealed with the cover.

Plot : The story is mainly revolves around Harsh Mittal a multi billionaire businessman enjoying patronage of the Master of the Popular Party Zoon Draboo. The Master wants to control the politics of India and regain majority in the coming elections with the help of Harsh who was an orphan whose destiny allowed him to study and conquer the IIT. Harsh is ready to do anything for his Master without asking anything in return and he did so with help of some old friends and foes. But the Master has some other plans to acquire his Guru Dakshina from Harsh.. What is he planning for Harsh? How Harsh fulfill his master's dream? Business rivalries, old friendships, money, power, ideals and conscience all are at stake in this thriller.

Thriller : Introductions of characters is superbly done in this book with pointing at commandments out of Ten Commandments suitable for that particular character. First a hint of the character and then description of the background in a separate chapter have made these characters realistic and for readers it becomes easier to understand their psyche. The power game in business and politics showed beautifully. Reading abusing Hindi language felt bad but again it was important for character building in some scenes.

Spoiler : The climax. Nothing hurts more than loose climax. The story which was taking turbulent turns with each passing page fell to a low in climax. It wasn't in haste but in laziness. I was expecting public uproar, News Now debating about heroism of few characters, nationwide demand for hanging the culprit, etc. Their are also some possibilities of love angles which was ignored in it.

Verdict : Read to know how governments can exploit us by infringing our privacy and to affirm that Truth always triumphs.

Rating : I would recommend it as one time read and would give 3/5.

Pimple Diary

Pimples Diary

There are two rhyming words related to face that draws attention of onlookers. But for one you want everyone to see and appreciate them and for other you better hide yourself from sight of others. These two words are dimple and pimple. Each one of us either a boy or a girl crave for dimples but not pimples.

Pimples are as much a problem for boys as for girls or either more severe in boys due to their carelessness towards their facial hygiene. I too have oily skin the perfect breeding ground for pimples. Oily skin catches environmental dust easily and when it gets clogged in facial pores it gives rise to blackheads and pimples the reddish protuberances on face which are attractive enough to caught eyeballs and give rise to disgusting expressions from the viewer. With onset of puberty pimples started to grow on my face as skin becomes thicker at that time than it was during childhood. I faced constant gazes and some friends even tried to touch and squeeze them to ooze out fluids from it ( at least girls are safe from such tortures from their decent friends).

I thanked my stars for saving me from this problem during their sudden onset. I have five sisters who have experimented everything with pimples till the time they grew on me. Neem leaves paste, bitter gourd juice, Multani Mitti ( Fuller's earth), etcetera along with some herbal syrups came to my rescue. Things are much easier now acne creams and face washes are much simpler. Now I see them using face washes to cleanse their skin. Though I don't use them regularly but when I use them I felt glow and shine on my face.

Garnier Pure Active is also used in my home by my sister-in-law (brother's wife) but I haven't tried it yet. But now on course of writing this post I noticed that it has Neem leaf and Tree Tea oil extracts the age old tried and tested ingredients for skin cleansing which not only brings glow to the face but also fights germs , pollution and removes oil which further restricts pimples.

"I wouldn't forgive him for his lie", he said to his father.

"But darling it was his duty and it was you who taught him that duty comes before family", he tried to pacify her.

"He never told a lie to me in his lifetime and see the day he lied to me he died" , she broke into tears in front of a coffin wrapped in tricolors.

Her son was the Indian army soldier who died of a bomb blast while rescuing a family trapped in that house.

"We should be proud of him that he decided to abandon us and not his country" he said to her proudly.

P.S : This post is a salute to all soldiers safeguarding Indian republic by endangering their lives. We must remember them on this special day. Happy Republic Day.

Ambitions of A Litterbug

I have dreams or I should say that we have dreams, my team the members of my community who are struggling for a name and fame in the society at least some respect from are fellow citizens. We are the neglected lot in this country. There are people who fought for the rights of women, children, LGBT , SC, ST,etc but none comes to cater our demands for the equality or rather superiority in the society for our services to the great country of ours India.

Afters years of humiliation from the society we have decided to come together to raise our demands and make our talent known not only in the country but throughout the world. Actually sometimes I think these foreigners understands us better that our own countrymen. They are the true jewelers to value the gems like us. They click pictures of our arts of those beautiful textures we made with paan and guthka spits on roadside walls, the garbage we throw to show our high consumption of food items are their favorite and not to forget the patches of plaster falling from walls after years of constant urinating such patches caught their immediate attention. The foreign tourists regularly visits just to see our creations not only at public places and roads but also at historical monuments. But still no special mentions of our services on public platforms.

It is sad to say that the talent admired by foreigners remained neglected at its place of birth. I sometimes feel ashamed when people just move aside keeping hands on their noses after seeing someone urinating on the walls and thus ignoring his artistic urge of giving a unique texture to that wall. My friend Paan Singh is a champion paan spitter, he can aim from a distance of about 10 feet and it is hard to get Gutkiya Lal's intensity while spitting guthka from his mouth. Shanno Aunty is a champion garbage bag thrower, her bag falls at a same place daily from balcony of third floor and not to forget my girlfriend she herself is unaware of the fact that the plastic bottle she threw out from moving car always falls on the road without hitting anybody an unmatched talent I would say.

There are numerous such talents like Peshab Bahudur, Kuda Khan, Thook lal,etc which went unnoticed due to the sorry state of our country in recognizing skillful people. Here I would like to thank The Times of India for providing us the platform to show our talents to the world through The Great Indian website. Here you can post pictures of these unknown people, their creations and help them to exhibit their skills. I would also like to appeal to the PM, the Indian Olympic Association, the Sports Ministry to look into the matter and give us chance to shine by demanding spitting competitions in Olympics. I assure you to win all three medals in this sports for the country. Moreover their must be some efforts from the government to highlight this talent and give some respect to us. I also demands Bharat Ratna for Paan Chand for his contribution in every expect of littering.

Here is a video by The The Great Indian website displaying some of us with their skills:

Face To Face With Creativity

Face To Face With Creativity

There is a saying in Hindi 'Jahan Na Pahunche Ravi, Wahan Pahunche Kavi' which means that a poet could reach at places where even sun couldn't. It means that our imagination and creativity take us to places otherwise unreachable. It points out things in us, in our surroundings which we either ignores or don't see at all due to a veil of some traditions, religion and culture. Creativity highlights the beauty or the ugliness of certain things hiding behind the mask of ignorance owing to certain societal pressures.

Many incidents recently like attack on french magazine Charlie Hebdo which killed journalists and cartoonists for depicting Prophet Mohammad's cartoon, violent demonstration against movies like PK  and Ram Rahim 's (MSG ), ban on books by Salman Rushdie, Perumal Murugan, Tasleema Nasreen, Dan Brown, etc for defaming religions and many such acts by so called moral police have tried to curb creativity and openly condemned it. This made me contact her to chat with me for her views on all these controversy related to her. Here is an excerpt of this conversation :

Me : I can see that your wounds are still fresh and present all over you. Which one hurts you the most?
Creativity (CRTY): (laughs) : It is like asking a mother which child she like the most. All wounds are direct attack on me and hurts a lot. But you see that they have never healed from the beginning of the time so I am habitual to them. Now absence of these wounds hurts the most than their presence.

Me : Is it right to attack you for the reasons they( attackers) give?
Crty : Do you watch reality shows?
Me: Yes.
Crty : Do you find reasons given by contestant to nominate each other right?
Me: No.
Crty : Yes you are right. But they still nominate using these silly reasons just to save themselves. Similarly these religious fanatics and moral contractor attack me to run their shops without understanding what I am trying to depict which if they understand make their whole existence worthless.

Me: But don't you think hurting some one's religious sentiments is not right and doing that again and again is like making mockery of them?
Crty“Call people to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good teaching, and argue with them in the most courteous way” [16:125] , this is what Allah says in Quran they can argue and change the views of my preparators. Dedicate your being to god. He is the one to be ultimately relied upon. Those who know of his support are forever free from fear, worry and sorrow, these are Lord Krishna's words from Bhagvat Gita. If they were close to god than why they fear. In reality I am close to Him. I have no sorrows, fear and worry.

Me: Hmm! You possesses good knowledge of each religion then why you lampoon them?
Crty: That's what the reason I lampoon them because I know them. There is no religion which is perfect only god is perfect. These religious fanatics believes that they have become perfect which in a way is insult to god and a greater sin in every religion. So they are defaming god not I. Moreover if you are closed to criticism you are stale and dead.

Me : You talking like you are in frequent contact of God.
Crty: Yes I am. I am in His touch. My preparator are in His touch. He gives us the permission, he allows us do do what we are doing. If it was not His will we wouldn't have power to do such big projects.

Me : Any messages for anybody.
Crty: Live and let live. Life is tough and full of problems. Don't consider me as any problem. I will always prove useful to humanity and society. So don't try to kill, hurt, curb me because I will never die,nor kill only changes forms and yes I would also like to thank you who nowadays want to talk to me.

I think she had made it clear that she and not the so called saver of religions and cultures are close to god and His creations. But still I think it is not right to hurt some one's sentiments but then truth always hurts. So lets creativity flow in it's own course.

Book Review : 13 Steps to Bloody Good Luck

Book Review : 13 Steps to Bloody Good Luck

Luck as some says is a matter of luck but Ashwin Sanghi in this non-fiction book 13 Steps to Bloody Good Luck published by Westland Ltd believes that luck depends on one's attitude and approach in life and how he/she raise, recognize and respond in a particular situation. I have purchased this author signed copy from Amazon. I bought it for Ashwin Sanghi but since it is a non-fiction it took me about a month to start reading it as I am less interested in non-fictions but as I sat to read it I finished it in a single day.

Cover : Cover design is attractive having three bodies without faces but having hands instead showing fingers which adds to 13. It is aptly design to attract the reader and I became interested in this book by looking at it's cover only.

Content : The book contains 6 chapters explaining that luck depends on your attitude and approach in life and it is not something you are born with. Each one of us has capability to become lucky through these 13 Steps or as he called it by Causing Ripple. Causing Ripple is the mnemonic to remember these steps. C - Confidence, A - Alertness, U - Unlearn , S - Situations , I - Intuition , N - Network , G - Goodness , R - Risks , I - Information , P - Positivity , P - Passion , L - Leverage , E - Experiment. He has explained his theory with help of interesting anecdotes related to his own experiences as well as from experiences from the lives of some famous personalities in the world.

Luck: This book tries to inculcate positive thinking in it's reader in which it is mostly successful. The small inspiring stories of famous personalities and about his own life make it a wonderful and interesting read. The simple language and the book's connection with the readers is maintained throughout which is why it is unputdownable.

Stuck : It stuck only at a single aspect of luck i.e success. According to this book luck is necessary to be successful in life or to be satisfied in life. But luck is also necessary for a life. Here is a story to support my point:

A small girl used to beg with her mother on Mumbai roads. A superstar known for his charity was among those who used to give her money. When her mother died she started begging herself  it was then that superstar adopted her as his sister and gave him a new life. That superstar is Salman Khan and that girl is now known as Arpita Khan.

Similarly we see many instances like a child surviving in Japan tsunami even after one week under debris, people coming out unhurt from fatal accidents or where actors' son getting films because of his father's success or owning a profitable family business where you need to stick to the basics. I think that some are born lucky which is not mentioned in book but some as Ashwin Sanghi says harvests luck with their various qualities but don't you think that one should be lucky enough to realize that he needs to harvest luck.

Verdict : If you have restricted yourself to read non-fiction than this is the book you must pick to start reading this genre and have a positive approach in life.

Rating : I would give it 4/5 stars to it.

You can buy this book here from Amazon and Flipkart

Quickly to Bangalore With Quikr

Relocating from one place to another is a daunting task and to think shifting to a place 2155 km away with all your furniture, electronics and other essential things seems next to impossible with all the things you have in your house. The cost to transport your household items to such a long distance would sure to destabilize your monthly budget leaving with less money to spend in the new city and the possibility that things would not damage during transportation is very less. I am talking about relocating from Delhi to Bangalore.

Bangalore or Bengaluru is the capital city of a southern Indian state Karnataka and is known as Silicon Valley of India due to home to numerous IT companies. This city is rapidly booming in every sector thus providing more opportunities than many other Indian cities for business growth as well as for those who wants better education in engineering and management owing to presence of high number of such institutes. Thus shifting to such a city would be a win-win situation in every expect, but as I mentioned earlier with all electronics, furniture and vehicles it would be difficult to think so.

Quikr the largest online used goods marketplace would play an eminent role in such a scenario. It is easy and free to register with the help of your email id, place free advertisements for things to sell and chodd fikar to Quickr. After selling your items you are ready to shift to the new city i.e Bangalore but how would you search home, furniture and other things in a city new to you. Again No Fikar and this time Kharid  Quikr on . From a house to furniture, from cars/bikes to electronics and home appliances and even a pet is easy to find there with lots of different options to choose from. Select the product , contact the seller and own the product of your choice. It is as easy as one, two, three.

User friendly interface of quikr made it easy to search things, different products are categorized in twelve different categories from cars and bikes to entertainment where you even post an add for vacancy in this category mostly required in a new city. It would take away lots of strain of relocating in a new city.It would reduce to the task to search for things in the market alien to you and where you don't have any experience. Moreover, since you have a restricted budget the provides cheap and the best options. Some used items were named so for the sake that they were second hand otherwise their condition was as good as new. Prisoner No. 142

Prisoner No. 142

He was known as Prisoner No. 142 in jail the number given to him after receiving life imprisonment. Coincidentally this number coincides with the number of people killed by them on the day when he was arrested outside school premises while his other associates fled the crime scene. He was from a terrorist group which was opposed to this whole idea of modern education, they believed that study of religious books and scriptures were the only requisite in life and that modern day education turned a person against their religion by inculcating and inducing ideas of other religions.

He was just seventeen years old when he was arrested for this heinous crime of killing innocent children and teachers. He succumbed to police pressure and admitted his crime and also revealed the name of other accused involved in the attack with him. All of them were arrested later and received life imprisonment with him. They too were of his age. They came in contact of an NGO working in jails which helped to bring mislead youth in the mainstream. Ashraf the man who lead the campaign in the jail where prisoner no. 142 and his other associates were imprisoned noticed 142's inclination towards education in spite his resistance in admitting it. He focused on him and compelled him to sit in some of his classes even after his denial.

It was a poetry class for prisoners where Ashraf recited a poem. 142 was mesmerized by it. He fell in love with this art. It was like magic to his ears, so much was said in so few words beautifully. He became a regular in these classes and also started studying with other prisoners. Soon he also started writing poems and stories. He graduated in literature during his punishment period. He wrote about 100 poems during this period some of which was published in some leading newspapers and magazines with the help of Ashraf. Later when he was released from jail a leading publisher published a compilation of his poems titled 'Prisoner No. 142' which was also his pen name. Education was a foe turned friend for him which made him understand the true religion of humanity. He also realized how his bosses in that terrorist group used to preach their religion wrongly to them and made them hate education. Others who were arrested with him also completed their education and got jobs to settle in their new life.

142 became a famous poet and writer. Some directors and producers have decided to make films on his stories. He was receiving this love from the thing he used to hate. Hate seizes our ability to look for good in the things we hate. So, just don't love things you don't like but never hate them.

Fresh Start

Martha again tried to convince him that they should marry in this new year but Robert was adamant to break this relationship,"I know you love me then why you are maintaining these distances," Martha asked.

"I can't tell you but I am breaking this relationship because I love you" he said and started moving out of the room.

" Wait a minute! I'll clear your doubts for a fresh start," she transformed into a vampire after saying some magical words and then asked him," What do you say know? Is this love possible?"

He smiled and hugged her after transforming into a Werewolf, he was glad that she knew his reality.

"Such match are made in heaven Martha," they knew now that they were made for each other.
