Book Review : Story of Tublu

Book Review : Story of Tublu

Story of Tublu is written by Jahid Akhtar and it is his first book. It is published by Lifi Publications and I have received this author signed copy from the author. In his words this book is an amazing journey called life.

Cover : Cover is simple and nice. A boy and a girl in first half of the cover page depicts a childhood love kind of thing which is true for the story and the city landscape in the lower half looks like Berlin where story ends. Thus cover shows the start and end and their life is inside the book. Full marks for the cover.

Plot: Tanmay aka Tublu a three year old boy left his village with his father Bipin after the Brahmaputra river floods. They went to a faraway land to meet Mr Sharma for some job and shelter after learning about him from an acquaintance. Mr Sharma ran the biggest public school in that area and was a helpful person. He appointed Bipin as his driver and gave them place to live in their backyard. Here Tublu meet Sujata aka Maina Sharma who was Mr Sharma's daughter. With age his likeness for Maina grew strong but he never expressed his feelings. On Paplu's suggestion (son of Mr Sharma) Tublu was admitted in Mr Sharma's school for better future where he joined in Maina's class. Days passed and they came in college. They needed to be apart for their career choices and it was there in the college where Maina met Ikram her senior. They started loving each other. Tublu was shattered after hearing this news but he was happy for Maina's happiness. Story takes curious turns with Mr Sharma's sudden death, Maina's unwanted separation from Ikram and her forceful marriage with Suraj. The journey of Tublu's life moves on in different directions with different people coming and going out from his life and after a rough phase comes a sweet ending.

Highs : This is a simple story as if we are reading about some real happenings of some real characters. Characters are believable which we can easily see in real life.

Lows : The story is clumsy. Author have jumped from one scene to another without finishing the previous act in the story. He looked lost in language also, it seems he was thinking in some other language and writing it down in English. Repeated use of words like 'earlier', apprehensive','mesmerizing', 'also','very', 'even', lately etcetera ruined reading experience. Some characters and scenes were inserted unnecessarily without there proper role in enhancing the story or in impacting the protagonist's life. I am sorry if I am too harsh but I have to be honest with my work. The story failed in leaving a positive impact on readers.

Verdict : If you wish to read a simple, uninteresting life story than you can pick this book. A story which was going here and there without reaching anywhere.

Rating : I would give it 1.5/5.

Author wrote interesting memoirs in his blog Flashbacks.

Book Review : You Are The Best Wife

Book Review : You Are The Best Wife

You Are The Best Wife is a memoir written by Ajay K Pandey for his wife. It is story of their love and how he lived his life after her sudden death. I received this book published by Srishti Publishers and Distributors from Reader's Cosmos.

Cover : Cover is nice actually more interesting than the story of this book. Picture of a man and woman meeting at hospital depicting the pain of separation. Pen at one corner is indication of his writing about his wife.

Plot : It is a true story which starts with Ajay's admission in IERT, Allahabad, he is from Rihand Nagar, Sonebhadra, UP who came to study in that institute. Here he met Bhavna Pradhan who was his classmate. It was love at first sight. They became good friends and Ajay started loving her, sensing similar feelings from her side he proposed her but she wanted only friendship with him. Their love grew gradually with course of time and it was then they decided to marry each other but only with parent's consent. Resistance came from Ajay's family due to their different castes but after some emotional drama by Ajay they were also ready for their marriage. After two years of successful marriage she suddenly died of Dengue leaving an incomplete wish behind. Story ends with Ajay's realization of true life and the lessons learned from it.

Note : It is difficult to review such a book which is so much emotionally connected to author's real life but here as a reviewer it is my duty to judge it as a love story book and point out its good and bad for readers.

Hits : The language is simple and easily understandable. The flow of the story is nicely maintained till the end. I also liked the message of the story i.e. 'To find happiness in the happiness of others.' There are few more inspirational quotes which I liked in the book.

Miss: The story is predictable. It is straight without any high points. By not writing about incidents of Ajay's visit to Bhavna's house during her sister's marriage and Bhavna's visit to Ajay's house during his sister's marriage writer has lost the opportunity of humor and romance during these occasions. It is not clear in the end what he learned from life and what he was doing after learning these lessons. He has tried to insert some funny lines or incidents which not came out the way he wanted and allegory used at some place are not in sync. If he would have connected the incidents of his life with situations of some movies the story would be more interesting.

Verdict : Read for Ajay's love for his wife Bhavna.

Rating : I would give it 2/5.

Book Review : There's Something About You

Book Review : There's Something About You.

There's Something About You is a fictional love story by Yashodhara Lal. I have received this book published by Harper Collins India from Indibloggers. Apart from being the love story this book try to find some common sensical solutions to some nonsensical problems.

Cover  : Full marks to the cover. It hints to a love story along with creating a mystery around their characters. Sea beach scene indicts a coastal city which is perfect to refer the city of dreams Mumbai.

Plot : A thirty year old single girl Trishna Saxena aka Trish lived in Mumbai with her Alzheimer suffering father and a nagging mother. She was content with her job in a leading publication which suddenly fired her from her job living her helpless in that big city. Unable to get a new job, she expressed her emotional and mental outburst in a part time assignment which changed her life for ever. Sahil entered her life at that moment and started easing her life situations. She found him connected to an incident happened in her life. How things turned out in between them? How she solves her friend Akansha's problem? The course of event changes to give readers an engrossing read to the relieved climax.

Highs : I like the narrative style of the book. The question and answer part of the book is interesting and really made you think how silly we behave in dealing with some simple problems in our life. The book never bores you even at a single point thanks to the well maintained pace in the narration. The climax is good and satisfactory for me. The characters are believable and you feel a connect with them as story progresses.

Lows : Half of the book revolves around only Trish which I think is an unnecessary stretching of the narrative without any interesting happenings at that time. I also missed some romantic moments between Trish and Sahil. Things are somewhat predictable.

Verdict : Pick your copy soon if you want to read a different kind of love story while discovering a fresh look at life during your book reading journey.

Rating : I would give it 4 out of 5.

The Lost Love (Part - 3)

The Lost Love (Part - 3)

Read : Part -1 and Part - 2

All night he waited for her answer but she didn't replied. He thought that she would answer him when they would met personally the next day. He reached the airport on time in the morning. There were still few minutes to his flight when his phone beeped. It was a message from Saya.

‘It is not the right time to meet. You are in urgency for some commitment. I never thought you would behave childishly in such a crucial situation. I too like to talk to you but your desperation is suffocating. It feels as if you wants to stick me like a ghost. Please don't come. I need more time to think.'

His one message ruined his life. He was sensing the end of his love life before a start. His eyes became moist. He remembered Sandhaya’s face when he mistreated her, when he didn't care about her feelings. Something similar was happening with him. He was so lost in his thoughts and turmoil that he missed several announcements about his flight. He missed his flight as quickly as he missed Saya from his life. His love was lost again. He silently went to his home and locked himself in his room. He wanted to talk to Sandhaya, he wanted to repent for his doings perhaps that would change the course of his life. His phone rang at this movement blinking Sandhaya's phone number. "How she knew that I need her at that moment." He said to himself and picked up her phone.

They regretted for their conduct on that frightful day. They then talked about their beautiful childhood days when they quickly apologized when ever they fought with each other. " I missed those days." "I too." " Why don't you come here we would eat lunch together. Mom has cooked our favorite Chinese food." He also needed to share his pain with her so he readily accepted her offer. After lunch they went to her room where he told her about Saya and how he ruined that beautiful relationship.

" You are now an expert in ruining relationship." She said hinting to their incident. "I don't know what happened to me at that time. After listening about your marriage I was determined to have someone in my life. I was angry with you for not discussing your marriage with me so I wanted to do the same to you." He said all in one go but later realized that he should not express his opposition to her marriage in this way.

"Abhishek ! Do you still love me." Her question surprised him, , he didn’t know its answer. But before he could say something she continued, " I never went to London. I was in Jaipur to my aunt's place just to be away from you. She asked me to consider Raunaq's proposal, since my family was ready for this match I couldn't do nothing but to remember your saying that we must listen to our hearts in time of confusion because it never lies. I know you will never come to my life so I accepted the proposal but I wants your happiness. I need an answer to this question for it, please close your eyes and ask your heart."

"I will definitely give you the answer and I think I too need an answer to this question," he closed his eyes, "wait a minute, you said that I told you this listening to heart thing." "Yes!" She was not making eye contact with him. " Sandhaya look at me, look into my eyes, you are Saya." She hugged him tightly and started crying.

"Abhishek! You didn't want to talk to me and I know when you were alone you spend your time writing on writeupcafe.com then I thought to keep in touch with you through this method so I created my shadow 'Saya' using first and last to letters of my name for this purpose. I was not aware that you will love my writing and then you contacted me. When you confessed your love for Saya I thought that I must not stretch this bluff any more and send you that message."

He was still stunned with these revelations the girl he loved and was loving all these days was Sandhaya. She was crying in his arms, he consoled her, " Idiot don't you see the good side of it, we can't live without each other. The writing that impressed me was yours because only you can understand the situation of my heart being in that situation yourself but you have done a blunder in all this by agreeing to marry Raunaq and not waiting for things getting normal between us."

"No mistake is bigger than your love," their parents came inside. "Your aunt told me that you were talking to Abhishek in Saya's disguise. We know that you can't live without each other but were hesitant to express or perhaps you don't even know about your love so we planted Raunaq in your story," Sandhaya's mother explained to them. " And now be ready for your wedding the same date next month." Both of them laugh at their idiocy and embraced each other while uttering three magical words.' I LOVE YOU.'

The Lost Love (Part - 2)

The Lost Love (Part - 2)

Read : Part 1

Saya was similar to him in thinking, in reading habits. His online conversations with her also revealed that they both like Chinese food and like the same Bollywood Hero and Heroine. He never thought anybody could understand it better than Sandhaya but Saya was much higher in that aspect from her. He wanted to meet her as soon as possible but she lived in another city.

“It was not a problem with me. I can come to meet you if you wish.” He said in excitement.

“ Oh My God! You are so desperate. What’s running in your mind.” She said impishly.

“Nothing of the sort you are thinking, I am just curious to see the beautiful face behind that beautiful writing.”

“Why you are so much confident about my beauty what if I am a seventy year old granny.”

“I always listen to my heart and it says that you are very beautiful and I am sure that you would be same as my imagination.” He said with confidence. He could judge by her voice and her thinking that she was of his age.

“If you are so eager to meet me than wait till next month I am coming there for my cousin's wedding." She said softly.

“One month is a long time. I can't wait for so long. I am coming in your city this weekend” He said firmly.

"Okay if you insist. Come this weekend."

He immediately booked his flight for the weekend. First time after so many days he was not thinking about Sandhaya’s incident. The guilt of mistreating Sandhaya was not feeling as a burden to him that day. He was happy and wanted to ease Sandhaya from the burden of the relationship they were carrying. He wanted to talk to her one last time. To end everything between them amicably. He went to her home to request her mother to compel her to talk to him. They were friends and they would remain the same if she wished.

Some guest were coming out from her house when he reached there. Abhishek inquired about them when he met her mother." Sandhaya didn't tell you? Don't tell me that both of you are still not in talking terms." Before he could speak anything she said,"they were Raunaq’s parents who came here to fix the date for Sandhaya and Raunaq’s wedding next month.” " What?" Sandhaya's wedding. It was difficult for him to absorb that his best friend the ex-love of his life was going to get married without any information to him. " Aunty! Have you asked Sandhaya about this." " Yes beta! You know that we don't force our decision on her. We were waiting for her decision about Raunaq from some time and she confirmed it last night that she is ready for marriage. We are happy , Raunaq is a nice boy and a good match for her."

He came out quietly without understanding what to say to her mother. She was feeling betrayed by his best friend. He was waiting for her return to apologize and mend their friendship and she decided on her wedding without telling him. The thought of losing her friendship in such a way filled his heart with despair. For him it was like someone giving his prized possession to someone else without his knowledge. He consoled himself ," Sandhaya has no place for me in her heart now. I should also move beyond her. I must confess my love to Saya before going to her this weekend. Sandhaya you haven't done right to me." He took out his phone and messaged ' I Love You' to Saya.

The Lost Love (Part - 1)

The Lost Love (Part - 1)

Abhishek was happy after talking to Saya his new-found online friend on phone. This was the first time he talked with her and the icing on the cake was her acceptance of his offer to meet him. He first encountered with Saya’s write up on writeupcafe.com , he was so much impressed with her writing that he started following her and spend long hours online to get a chance to talk to her. Every article, poem, story of her mesmerized him to an extent that he read them again and again.

Saya’s writing came to him as a welcome relief after his breakup from Sandhaya . He felt that she was writing for his condition, to ease his pain, to lift his spirit. Each word of her filled his heart once again with love whose arrival he thought impossible when Sandhaya left him abruptly few weeks ago. He knew Sandhaya from his childhood, their parents were family friends so they automatically became friend when they were children. The childish affection grew into unbreakable friendship of the teenage which further converted into love. They never felt the need to admit their love because it was understandable with the way they treated each other.

But the fruit of love ripen only after the test of time.  Things changed between them after completing their studies when they were searching for jobs in order to pursue the career of their choice. Abhishek started getting irritated with Sandhaya’s undue concern for him. He felt her obsession for him was ruining his life. He was unable to concentrate on his career goals. She inquired about his whereabouts every time he was away from her and when he got a job in a multi national company she also applied for a job there which annoyed him.

“Sandhaya! Stop following me like this we are not children now.”  He said sternly.

“But we are still friends and I love you. I always wanted to be with you.” She said in her usual enthusiasm without bothering about his anger. Her behavior further angered him.

“Stop your nonsensical talks. For the god’s sake give me some space in my life.” He turned his face away from her.

“Oh! You don’t even wants to see my face. You are a changed man Abhishek. I never expected this from you.” She started crying.

“You forced me to behave in such a way by sticking with me like a ghost.” He didn’t care that she was crying.

“These silly concerns about you, caring for things you like, …” she continued talking while sobbing ,”these used to be the things you liked in me and now you are saying that these things are burden on you. My continuous talking which you see as fulfillment of your nature of taking less now annoying you.”

They both remained silent for some time and then she spoke again,” Abhishek I think  my time in your life is over and you are right that we must find our own ways.”

He realized that evening that he was too harsh on Sandhya but she never spoke to him after that incident and within a week of it she went to London for a job she rejected before to be with him. Although he wanted that she didn’t interfere in her life he never wanted her out of his life because he knew how difficult it was for him to live without her. She was his only friend and he knew that she too didn’t have any friends in her except him but strong love give rise to strong anger.  She didn’t give her phone number to him and when he got it from her parents she didn’t responded to his calls. He was shattered with her behavior and consoled himself that she would be fine with time as she could not resist talking to him for a longer time. He started living a lonely life spending most of his free time at home with his computer writing on his blog or just reading what others were writing. Sandhaya’s absence in his life made everything boring for him and it was only after reading the write up titled ‘The Lost Love’ that something sparkled inside him. It was the write up written by Saya.

Book Review : The Waning Moon

Book Review : The Waning Moon - When Love Interrupts.

The Waning Moon - When Love Interrupts is a sequel to Six Teen Mistakes - The Waxing Moon by Nikhil Kushwaha which was reviewed by me here. This book is also published by Frog Books of Leadstart Publishing Pvt. Ltd. I have received this book from the author and it is the continuation of the first part.

Cover: It looks nice with photographs of good times in love, a love letter and an engagement ring all in the foreground of lonely walking boy. It suits the narrative and the poem in the rear of the book which is the best poem in this book.

Plot: This is sad but there is no plot or story in this book. Priya came to Nikhil's hometown to attend her cousin's wedding and also to listen the rest his love story. We already knew at the end of the first book that Shreya was dead, this part only describes the timeline of how this happened.

Boiler : The poems again came to the rescue but this time they are used less , the narrative was simple and easy to understand. Characters are believable. Some love moments are captured well.

Spoiler : I don't know how to say that but this story is stagnant throughout. I waited till the end for some twists and surprises like Nikhil concocting the story just to impress Priya whom he loved from the first sight or including some event like his elopement with Shreya could have electrified the narrative. Her death was also emotionless and his remembering of those times looks painless and comical to me that's why I actually waiting for some weird or surprise ending which it was not. Some poems looked vulgar to me and others were also not as good as in the previous part.

Verdict : Read just to know what happens after first part. A simple read.

Rating : I would give it 1/5.

Book Review : Soul Mates

Book Review : Soul Mates

Soul Mates - Love Without Ownership is written by Vinit K. Bansal whose first novel I Am Heartless is also among national bestseller. This book is published by Red Ink Publishers. I have received this book for winning Blog-A-Ton 51 for my poem Soulmates . This story confirms again that love is selfless.

Cover : It's cover reminds a pose from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge but here the images are little bit sad implying a sad love story. The background iron rod and brick wall giving the impression about involvement of Jail. Overall a nice cover for the story.

Plot : Rajiv Bhattacharya a budding reporter assigned the task to interview a murderer in jail. After few attempts Neel Gupta the criminal gave his nod for the interview. Neel Gupta was a small town guy who came to Jaipur University for his higher studies. On the day of his arrival he encountered wounded Ranadeep and took him to the hospital. Ranadeep was from an effluent family of politicians, they started treating Neel as their own son after that incident and for Ranadeep also he was a younger brother. Neel fell in love with Aditi a simple girl in his class while Ranadeep started loving Ria also Neel's classmate. Though Aditi also loved Neel, Ria didn't like Ranadeep who was obsessed for her and instead she expressed her love for Neel. Ria died and Neel was charged for her murder. How Ranadeep reacted to it? How Neel and Aditi's relationship changes with Ria coming in between them ? Why Neel charged for Ria's murder? All these questions are answered in this gripping love story.

Boiler : The simplicity of narration , story and the characters is the boiling point of the novel. All the characters appears believable which helps in making the story engrossing. Simple language and proper chapter breaks add interest to it. Dialogues are nice the romantic scenes which I think are the soul of love stories are nicely scripted. Though the start of the story reminded me Veer - Zara but their is no connection between them except both of them talk of Love Without Ownership.

Spoiler : Predictability. As the story unfolds its outcome is easily predictable at least I predicted it right each time . The climax is below expectation and it's there where this story loses points.

Verdict : Those who love love stories can give it a try and if you are not a movie buff like me then you would not be disappointed with the end as I am.

Rating : I would give it 2.5/5.

Book Review : The Recession Groom

Book Review : The Recession Groom

The Recession Groom is written by Vani and published by Jufic Books of Leadstart Publishing Pvt. Ltd. I have received this book from Readers Cosmos as part of Readers Cosmos Book Review Program. The book is a story of a Hindu Punjabi boy working in Toronto, Canada whose family is desperately searching for a bride for him.

Cover : A handsome boy in corporate suite with a garland of dollars in his neck perfectly suits the title. It not only hints that the story is related to marriage but also to the fact that the character is working in corporate office. Full marks for the cover.

Plot : Parshuraman who works in a multinational company Vezza in Toronto, Canada goes to India his home country for the project he was working on along with Jennifer Gomes his colleague who was also working in this project. On his visit to his home in Chandigarh, India he founds that his sister Ragini have arranged a proposal for him to marry. He didn't like that girl but his sister fixed his engagement with her. On his return to Toronto , he receives a call from his Aunt Parvati from San Jose, California,USA, she has also arranged a match for him. She liked that girl and everything was settled for their marriage. Meanwhile Jennifer also expressed her love for him which he rejected as he loved the girl Tara with whom his marriage was arranged. Suddenly due to recession he loses his job and everything changed. His marriage with Tara got cancelled. The twists and turns in his live finally give him a better job and a life partner whom he loves.

Boiler : The setting of characters is the boiling point of the story. Indian thinking about marriages is well expressed. It is real and connectable to the people in the Northern India. Aunt Paravati is a character easily available in this part of the world. Simple language makes it a easy read. The pace of the narration is maintained throughout in the narrative and at no single point it sinks to the level of boredom. The recession angle is nicely merged with the story.

Spoiler : The story is predictable and right from the very start I was aware of its end which disappointed me. Many dialogues, sentences and instances appear to me repetative. I also felt that the story is bit stretched.

Verdict : You will love the blend of business with the romantic tale. It is not at all boring and a must read for all those who love love stories.

Rating : I would give it 3/5.

Naina's Diary Part - 3

Naina's Diary Part - 3

Previous Parts : Part 1 ; Part 2

Dear Diary,

I am writing to you after so many days since I was busy in my marriage. While I am writing this my husband Rohan was sitting with his friends outside eager to come to me but I know his friends would delay his coming. I met Rohan six months back during a conference I attended on behalf of my company. I was sure from the very first look of his well groomed clean shaven personality that he would impress everyone there. His way of communicating with others, his confidence in presenting himself and his knowledge about his area of work did exactly the same. He bold over everyone there including me.

I introduced myself to him and I don't know why I felt him as the man for me when I shook hands with him. You can see that I was absolutely write we are married within six months. It was amazing that neither his nor mine parents raised any objections about this relationship. I used to tell you that relationships are made in heaven and my story has exactly that divine presence. He is so understanding that when I told him about the letter boy being my first love , he raised no objections and assured me that his love would overcome all my feelings about that letter boy. He was right that letter boy don't come in my memories now, I have forgotten him. I think he is coming , I will write more to you tomorrow.

#####################

Rohan came inside the room dressed in a maroon sherwani. She put her diary in the drawer and sat on the bed like a shy bride covering her face. " This is your 'Muh Dikhai' ( a gift giving ritual before lifting the veil) from me." She was expecting some jewelry but he forwarded a letter towards her. Her eyes shone as she read the letter and tears rolled down her eyes. She recognized that hand writing and that poem. Rohan was the letter boy. He was a computer trainer in that Internet cafe later he developed some software which gave him success. " That incident bring two changes in me , first that you must have money which I know now was not the reason for your rejection and second the well groomed clean shaven face to win over a girl like you." They both laughed and hugged each other.

Immortal Love

Immortal Love

"It was love at first sight. I never thought that I will become crazy like that for someone. For days I thought what was happening is real or a mirage, how can someone be so beautiful. She moved so smoothly, her impact was permanent and straight in to your heart. I am sure today will be the D day the day she will touch me and I will get a chance to feel her. All these days I saw her interacting with others without even looking at me but my heart  was feeling her from her fragrance. Her curvy body, her swan like neck, her deer like movement,I don't have words to explain her beauty. I have calculated and now I think the wait is over she is coming to me in 10,9,8,7..." Adil tear the last page to note something then rolled the paper and threw it into the dustbin. His meeting with his love the ball pen remain incomplete. But he was satisfied for the fact that incomplete love stories become immortal. " One day all lovers will swear by the name of paper & pen when in love."

Untold Love

Untold Love

Rajan was thinking of the days he shared with Roshni while sitting beside his window. Since childhood they were neighbors and thus very good friends, when at the age of sixteen Rajan lost both his parents in a road accident she was one to console him as she experienced the same feeling being brought up by her elder brother after she lost her parents in her childhood. They always stood for each other in time of grief and happiness,it is on her encouragement and support that he completed his studies and worked now in a private company as a manager.

He always enjoyed her company and started liking her,he don't know exactly when this liking converted into love,he never disclosed his emotions for her and wanted that she understood them by herself. But neither she nor he spoke those words and now it's too late as her brother has fixed her marriage to someone with her consent. He was relaxing and thinking about his untold love when Roshni's brother Arun knock at his door,"Rajan may I come in.", " You!yes please come in bro."

Arun told Rajan that he required money for Roshni's marriage arrangements," Rajan you are our own family and you can understand my situation, please arrange for some money, I will return it to you with interest with in a month." Rajan was saving money for years for his marriage someday with Roshni. He gave that money to Arun for a condition that he did not want it back as being the best friend of Roshni,it was his duty also that her wedding was completed without any difficulties.

It might be possible that Roshni would have accepted his proposal if he had asked her for marriage,it was also possible that she already knew of his love for her but she faced same problem as faced by Rajan. They both didn't want to lose their best friend or his love was not strong enough to be acknowledged by her. In few years Rajan also got married after pressure from some relatives and Roshni. Rajan and Roshni are still good freinds and that love story remained untold forever. It is also possible that there is another side of that story.

This story is complete in itself but if someone wish for a different end to that than wait for its,
concluding parts in future posts.....
