Book Review : Thousand Unspoken Thoughts

Book Review : Thousand Unspoken Thoughts

Thousand Unspoken Thoughts is a poetry book written by Prerna Khatri who is an Advocate by profession. The book is published by Virgin Leaf Books of Leadstart Publishing Pvt. Ltd. I have received this book from the publishers.

Cover: Cover is simple, the feather and ink-pot on it looked like waiting to write these unspoken thoughts. I think the cover is suitable for this kind of book.

Content: This book is a collection of prose poems without written in any particular form or rhyme scheme. There are 50 of such prose poems making us aware of the thoughts of poetess Prerna Khatri. The poetess's dreams, aspirations, imaginations, thoughts, messages, reality check, etc are woven in this 97 pages book.

Comment: I liked the thought behind many prose like 'On Change, Freedom In Chains, In Conversation with the Devil, Reflections, Let There Be Light and many more other poems. Some poems are straight and I didn't find any artistic imagery, poetic scheme or any thing like that which make reading poems different from paragraph or prose reading. If the poems were characterized by themes or thoughts the readers's understanding of the idea behind the poem would be more clear. Thoughts as the poetess called them looks impressive but up to an extent and doesn't leave an impact on your minds once you are over with the book.

Verdict: Read in one go book. Small so munch it in free time.

Rating: I would give 2/5.

You can buy it from Amazon.

Book Review : The Waning Moon

Book Review : The Waning Moon - When Love Interrupts.

The Waning Moon - When Love Interrupts is a sequel to Six Teen Mistakes - The Waxing Moon by Nikhil Kushwaha which was reviewed by me here. This book is also published by Frog Books of Leadstart Publishing Pvt. Ltd. I have received this book from the author and it is the continuation of the first part.

Cover: It looks nice with photographs of good times in love, a love letter and an engagement ring all in the foreground of lonely walking boy. It suits the narrative and the poem in the rear of the book which is the best poem in this book.

Plot: This is sad but there is no plot or story in this book. Priya came to Nikhil's hometown to attend her cousin's wedding and also to listen the rest his love story. We already knew at the end of the first book that Shreya was dead, this part only describes the timeline of how this happened.

Boiler : The poems again came to the rescue but this time they are used less , the narrative was simple and easy to understand. Characters are believable. Some love moments are captured well.

Spoiler : I don't know how to say that but this story is stagnant throughout. I waited till the end for some twists and surprises like Nikhil concocting the story just to impress Priya whom he loved from the first sight or including some event like his elopement with Shreya could have electrified the narrative. Her death was also emotionless and his remembering of those times looks painless and comical to me that's why I actually waiting for some weird or surprise ending which it was not. Some poems looked vulgar to me and others were also not as good as in the previous part.

Verdict : Read just to know what happens after first part. A simple read.

Rating : I would give it 1/5.

Prisoner No. 142

Prisoner No. 142

He was known as Prisoner No. 142 in jail the number given to him after receiving life imprisonment. Coincidentally this number coincides with the number of people killed by them on the day when he was arrested outside school premises while his other associates fled the crime scene. He was from a terrorist group which was opposed to this whole idea of modern education, they believed that study of religious books and scriptures were the only requisite in life and that modern day education turned a person against their religion by inculcating and inducing ideas of other religions.

He was just seventeen years old when he was arrested for this heinous crime of killing innocent children and teachers. He succumbed to police pressure and admitted his crime and also revealed the name of other accused involved in the attack with him. All of them were arrested later and received life imprisonment with him. They too were of his age. They came in contact of an NGO working in jails which helped to bring mislead youth in the mainstream. Ashraf the man who lead the campaign in the jail where prisoner no. 142 and his other associates were imprisoned noticed 142's inclination towards education in spite his resistance in admitting it. He focused on him and compelled him to sit in some of his classes even after his denial.

It was a poetry class for prisoners where Ashraf recited a poem. 142 was mesmerized by it. He fell in love with this art. It was like magic to his ears, so much was said in so few words beautifully. He became a regular in these classes and also started studying with other prisoners. Soon he also started writing poems and stories. He graduated in literature during his punishment period. He wrote about 100 poems during this period some of which was published in some leading newspapers and magazines with the help of Ashraf. Later when he was released from jail a leading publisher published a compilation of his poems titled 'Prisoner No. 142' which was also his pen name. Education was a foe turned friend for him which made him understand the true religion of humanity. He also realized how his bosses in that terrorist group used to preach their religion wrongly to them and made them hate education. Others who were arrested with him also completed their education and got jobs to settle in their new life.

142 became a famous poet and writer. Some directors and producers have decided to make films on his stories. He was receiving this love from the thing he used to hate. Hate seizes our ability to look for good in the things we hate. So, just don't love things you don't like but never hate them.
